The San Juan High School track and field team closed out their regular season this past Friday and Saturday, May 2-3 with a trip to Provo to compete in the PACS BYU Invitational.
The Broncos earned nine points at the huge annual event, which boasted 137 teams and 3,480 athletes representing multiple states and classifications.
Those nine points belonged to none other than Tripp Palmer. Though he didn’t win it outright, his jump of six feet, nine inches was good enough to tie for first place in the high jump.
Palmer also finished just outside the points in 11th in the long jump with a jump of 21-6.
Notable finishes for the San Juan girls included Savannah Richmond, 16th in the discus competition with a 110-6. And Keezie Flannery took 19th in the high jump when she cleared the bar at five feet, one inch.
With the regular season in the books, the San Juan teams are gearing up for some postseason action. They didn’t have long to wait as they got an early start this week.
The Broncos took a short trip north to Moab on Tuesday, May 6 for the Region 15 Championship at Grand County High School. The event was contested after the San Juan Record print deadline; look for results in the May 14 issue of the paper.
And the Utah State Track and Field Championships are fast approaching. That event is set for May 15-17 right back at BYU in Provo.
