Whitehorse basketball teams win play-in to earn spot in state tournament

Both Whitehorse basketball teams won play-in games on February 25 to punch their ticket to the 1A state tournament in Richfield.
The #13 seed lady Raiders defeated Region foe Pinnacle 74-25 in their game on Saturday.
Whitehorse jumped to a 25-4 lead after one quarter extending the lead to 47-14 at halftime. After three quarters the Raiders led 64-18 with the final score favoring the lady Raiders 74-25.
The lady Raiders take on #4 Wayne in the second round in Richfield on March 1 at 10:00 a.m. with the game broadcast on Red Rock 92.7 FM.
The Whitehorse boys basketball team also earned a play-in victory on February 25 when the #12 seed Raiders defeated the #21 seed Intermountain Christian 84-71.
The Raiders fell behind to the lions 20-15 in the first quarter before evening the score 39-39 at halftime. The Raiders build a lead at the end of the third quarter 56-52 before pulling away for the final score of 84-71.
The game saw a ton of three point shots rain down. As the Raiders hit 13 threes including seven by Whitehorse junior Lyric Phillips. Intermountain Christian made 17 three-point shots including nine by sophomore Noah Hillaker.
The Raiders were led by a monster game from Phillips who finished with 39 points in the game. Senior D’Wayne Nakai scored 19 for the Raiders while sophomore Kalin Tohonnie scored 15 points. Fellow sophomore Dominic Dance scored seven while senior Camron Nakai added four points.
The Raiders take on #5 Milford in the second round in Richfield on March 1 at 11:30 a.m. The game will be broadcast on Red Rock 92.7 FM.
