Whitehorse volleyball team battles through challenging week

After stringing together four straight wins to start the month of September, this past week proved to be challenging for the Whitehorse volleyball team.
The Lady Raiders suffered losses to Water Canyon on September 15 and Milford September 16 before bouncing back for a win over Shiprock Northwest on September 18.
Despite the 3-1 final at Water Canyon it was a tight match with the first three sets decided by five points or less. Whitehorse lost the first two sets 25-20 and 25-23, then rallied to win set three 25-20. Unfortunately the girls were unable to force a fifth set when they lost 25-10 in the fourth.
Keira Chee led the team with six kills in the loss, Kaleigh Chee served three aces, Keira Little and Katiana Ben had two blocks apiece, and Keira and Kaleigh Chee had two digs each.
The Lady Raiders struggled in their loss to Milford, falling in straight sets 25-10, 25-12, and 25-22. Keira Chee, Kaleigh Chee, and Katiana Ben all had three kills each in the loss.
Whitehorse dominated in their sweep of Shiprock Northwest at home this past Thursday, winning 25-7, 25-6, and 25-17.
Keira Chee led with an impressive 11 kills, Ben served five aces, Malia Sam had two digs, and Kelaigha Nakai collected two assists in the win.
The Lady Raiders are 5-3 on the year, ranked 12th in the Utah 1A. They faced local rival Monticello on Tuesday, September 23 in a match played after the San Juan Record print deadline.
They’re scheduled to play in the Rehoboth Christian Tournament in Rehoboth, NM this Thursday through Saturday, September 25-27.
