Whitehorse High track brings home first place trophies
The Whitehorse High School Raiders boys and girls track brought home the first place trophies from the Region 19 track meets on May 6. The last time Whitehorse High School won the Region 19 Track Championship was in 1989.
That 26-year drought ended on May 6 in Blanding at the 1A Region 19 Track Championships. Both the boys and girls teams took the championship with 239 team points.
Green River was in second place with 155 total team points. Whitehorse High School had 24 total athletes who qualified for the state track meet, the most that have qualified in the 15 years that Matt Baldwin has been the track coach at the school.
The state track meet was held at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT on May 15 and 16. Whitehorse took 11th place overall, scoring a total of 25 team points.
The boys medley relay team of JR Todachinnie, Dylan Lansing, Rafael Begaye, and Hank Lee took third place.
The boys 4x400 meter relay team of Sheldon Blackwater, Garrett Nez, Hank Lee, and Rafael Begaye took sixth place.
Rafael Begaye took fourth place in the 1600 meter and sixth place in the 3200 meter. Dylan Lansing took fifth place in the 110 meter hurdles.
David Mitchell took sixth place in the boys discus. Sina Yellowman took eighth place in the girls 3200 meter. Matt Baldwin, Bob Lambert, and Brook Lambert are the track coaches for the 2015 season.
