Utah Food Bank to Host Second Annual Golf Tournament in Monticello Aug. 8
Utah Food Bank is hosting their second annual Fore Corners Against Hunger golf tournament on Friday, August 8, at Hideout Golf Club in Monticello.
This scramble-format tournament will directly benefit Utah Food Bank Southeastern Distribution Center’s work to fight hunger in the San Juan and Grand counties, where residents face significantly higher rates of hunger compared to the state average.
Sign up to participate by forming a four-person team for $400, a two-person team for $200, or even supporting the event as a corporate sponsor.
All entry fees include breakfast, lunch and beverages. Sponsorship opportunities start at $1,000 and include player registrations, recognition opportunities and more, depending on the sponsorship level.
New this year is that all proceeds from this tournament will be matched thanks to the generosity of the MNHRC Foundation, so each person who participates will have an even greater impact.
Registration information can be found by visiting UtahFoodBank.org and clicking on the “Events” tab.
Utah Food Bank opened its Southeastern Distribution Center in Blanding in 2024, along with food pantries in Montezuma Creek and Monument Valley in March.
Together, these three locations now serve an estimated 60 percent of San Juan County residents, while also supporting food pantries in neighboring Grand County.
Over the past year, Utah Food Bank has distributed the equivalent of approximately 1.1 million meals in this region, underscoring the urgent need for continued support.
San Juan and Grand county residents face significantly higher rates of hunger compared to the state average, with 18 percent reporting food insecurity, as opposed to 12 percent statewide.
Disturbingly, childhood hunger is even more prevalent, with 25 percent of children uncertain about their next meal, almost double the statewide average.
“It’s been incredible to witness the difference our Southeastern Distribution Center is making in the region,” according to Ginette Bott, Utah Food Bank President & CEO.
Ron “RT” Nielson, Utah Food Bank Southeastern Distribution Center Director, said “I invite everyone who can join us to come out to this event to learn about all the exciting things we are doing.
If someone you know needs help with food resources, there are Utah Food Bank’s pantries in Blanding, Monument Valley, and Montezuma Creek and Utah Food Bank Southeastern Distribution Center has two pantries in Moab.
