Candidates declared for municipal elections in Blanding, Bluff and Monticello
16 candidates filed for municipal elections in Blanding, Bluff and Monticello last week.
Candidates for mayor and two council seats in all three towns will be seeking appointment to four-year terms by voters this year.
Blanding is set to have the only primary race in the county.
Five candidates are seeking to be elected to two available city council seats.
The five candidates will be narrowed to four on August 12, with the four top candidates running for a municipal election in November.
Candidates include Incumbent Erik Merlin Grover, Chad Moses, Jesse Grover, Stacy Harrison and Bret Allen Hosler. Council member Cheryl Bowers did not file for re-election.
In Blanding the sole Mayoral candidate is Trevor Olsen. Olsen was appointed as Blanding mayor at the beginning of 2025 when Logan Monson was elected to represent the area on the Utah house of representatives.
In Bluff three candidates are running for two town council seats. Incumbent Luanne Hook, Spencer Wade and Gary Haws will be on the November ballot. Current council member Linda Sosa did not file for re-election.
In the Bluff Mayoral race Joshua Ewing is the lone candidate with current Mayor Ann Leppanen not seeking re-election.
In Monticello the Mayoral race includes Incumbent Bayley Hedglin and current council member Kevin Dunn.
Candidates for Monticello city council include Shane Brewer, Todd Westcott, Pamela Pearson-Fuller and Tanner Holt.
Incumbent George Rice did not file for re-election, while the other incumbent Kevin Dunn filed for the mayoral race.
The Blanding city council primary election will be held on August 12 with the municipal general elections scheduled for November 4, 2025.
