Blanding gets $1 million to expand water treatment facility
The City of Blanding has been awarded a United States. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development loan for $266,000 and grant of $750,300 totaling $1,016,300, to fully fund the Blanding water project.
Funds will be used to expand the water treatment facility by increasing capacity and adding a three million gallon a day membrane filtration system to the current 2.6 million size, doubling the city’s ability to serve the community for the next 20 years.
“The City of Blanding was so excited to receive this badly needed help from USDA Rural Development. Water has been a major issue and struggle in our area. This is an important project to our little city,” said City Manager Chris Webb.
This project is the final phase of the city’s water improvement project to increase capacity and modernize the water treatment plant. Modifications will provide the city with adequate, quality water.
