Municipal Elections set for November 4

Municipal election day for residents in Monticello and Blanding is November 4.
Two city council seats in both towns and the mayoral seat in Monticello are contested on this year's ballots.
However, a recent change of deadline by the Utah state legislature means residents will need to have their ballots in earlier than before to be counted.
In March, the Utah State Legislature passed HB 300, which requires that ballots be received by county clerks offices at 8 pm on election day.
Previously, Utah ballots that were in the mail the day before an election would be counted, even if the ballots were received by the clerks office a day, two or even weeks after the actual election day.
The new law means that ballots must be physically delivered to the county clerk’s office or a designated drop box by the time polls close at 8 pm on election day.
To avoid having a late-arriving ballot be uncounted, voters that need to mail in their ballot will want to do so well in advance of election day. Mailed ballots will still be received at secure drop box locations up until 8 pm on election day.
The change by the state legislature already impacted Blanding City Council’s primary elections in August with 65 ballots received after the postmark deadline.
In Monticello two city council seats will be filled by four candidates including Shane Brewer, Todd Westcott, Pamela Pearson-Fuller, and Tanner Holt. Mayoral candidates include incumbent Bayley Hedglin, and Kevin Dunn.
In Blanding, two city council seats will be filled with four candidates running including Incumbent Erik Merlin Grover, Chad Moses, Jesse Glen Grover and Bret Allen Hosler.
