Bret Hosler retires after nearly 36 years

Bret Hosler is retiring from the City of Blanding after nearly 36 years of service to the Blanding community.
Hosler has served in numerous capacities for the City of Blanding, including Community Development Director, City Planner, Building Official, and Municipal Airport Manager.
Bret and his wife Pam moved to Blanding in 1989 after he completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geography, majoring in planning, from Brigham Young University.
Hosler was the first City Planner for Blanding, leaving a legacy of instrumental accomplishments. As the needs of the city grew, he became the first building official in Blanding.
He received seven national certifications to inspect both residential and commercial buildings, dedicated to helping Blanding residents achieve their dreams of improving their homes and businesses alike.
Bret initially worked alongside City Manager Norman Johnson and City Engineer Philip Palmer as part of the management team for Blanding. His years of rubbing shoulders with these fine men made for many memorable years on the job.
As the City grew, Bret took on the additional roles of Community Development Director and Economic Development Director. During this time, Bret founded the Blanding Community Legacy Trust, a separate 501 C3 nonprofit corporation where he serves as President of the Board.
Additionally, Bret has served as the Airport Manager for the last ten years of his career.
During this time he was involved in rebuilding the runway, completing a land deal to allow for a wildlife fence to be constructed to protect air traffic, and improving the fuel system.
Over the past 35.5 years, Hosler has been the catalyst for many improvements to Blanding. Some of his career highlights include Utah’s first Tesla charging station, rebuilding Blanding City Main Street (a $14 million project), solar panels at the Visitor Center and Wellness Center, and an EDA grant for a new hanger and office complex currently housing Guardian flight.
Bret has enjoyed working for Blanding City and serving the citizens in each of his roles.
