Trent Herring is the new Blanding City Administrator, after he was appointed by the Blanding City Council.
The council approved the Mayor’s appointment, but a contract will also need to be approved before the appointment is finalized.
Mayor Logan Monson said the city had 25 applicants for the position with three rounds of interviews with city staff, community members and council members all weighing in.
Monson had high praise for the candidates noting that several had high qualifications and he felt that many of the applicants could’ve been chosen.
“Trent’s track record, experience, leadership, and things we went through through the process gave those involved a vision that we felt like aligned with everyone that was involved.”
Council member Cheryl Bowers was a part of the interview process and said she felt that city had been thorough and complete.
“I was thrilled with the candidates we had and got to sit on several interviews twice. I feel very comfortable in the decision we’re making tonight. I feel like we’ve been informed. The good thing is when you have great choices to choose from it makes it harder to actually make that final decision.”
Members of the council voted to approve the appointment with a contract to come before the council for final approval.
Members of the council also approved an NTUA agreement as part of the work to bring running water to the Westwater community.
Connected to that project, the city also gave advice and consent to city staff to begin working on annexation of city property into city boundaries.
The property will allow the city to run the needed pipelines to bring water connections to the 27 lots in the Westwater community.
