Cantrell selected County Surveyor of the Year

San Juan County Surveyor Sam Cantrell was recently recognized by his peers as the 2015 County Surveyor of the Year.
“While Sam is still a fairly new elected official – taking office for the first time earlier this year – he’s no stranger to county government,” said Doug Perry, communications director of the Utah Association of Counties (UAC), the organization that recognizes outstanding county government official work each year.
“He’s been with San Juan County for 19 years – nearly all of them in the capacity of Chief Deputy Surveyor and has been working hard to protect and preserve the public land survey system and thus the rights of land owners in his county.”
Sam is serving a six-year term as surveyor.
Each year, since 1998, nine elected county officials are selected from each of the elected offices held in county governments across the state, including assessors, auditors, attorneys, clerks, recorders, treasurers, sheriffs and surveyors. Those selected will be honored at the UAC Annual Convention, November 11-13.
Current San Juan Commissioner Bruce Adams (in 2012), as well as former San Juan officials Norm Johnson (clerk in 2009 and 2010), David Bronson (surveyor in 2007), and Bill Redd (commissioner in 2001) are all past recipients of this award, within their respective offices.
