Cougar wrestlers open new year with tournaments in Kayenta, Shiprock

The Monument Valley High School wrestling team opened the new year at the Super Regional Tournament in Kayenta, AZ on Wednesday, January 10 with only four wrestlers in attendance.
Shayden Fatt was the only Cougar to earn a win at the event. He beat Tyrus Tsosie of Chinle in the first round of the consolation bracket with a fall in 1:36.
In Monument Valley’s second tournament of 2024 the team traveled to Shiprock, NM this past Saturday, January 13 for the Garrison Spencer Memorial Duals.
The Cougars won duals over Shiprock and Shiprock Northwest, then lost in a tie-breaker in the third-place dual to Bloomfield, finishing fourth.
Kolton Jones led the way for the team at 133 pounds with a 4-1 record, including two wins by fall and one by 14-10 decision.
Logan Skinner was undefeated with two wins by fall at 189 pounds. Jonas Johnson, Adrian Lobato, and Devonte Thinn were all 3-2 on the weekend with Johnson and Lobato earning one fall each.
Jerious Clark, Tristan Hartman, Cal Jones, Tadrian Todacheeny, and Jace Tsosie were all 2-3 at the tournament with Jones, Todacheeny, and Tsosie all earning one win by fall apiece.
The Cougars will pay a visit to in-county rival Monticello on Wednesday, January 17 to compete in duals with the Buckaroos, San Juan, Whitehorse, Grand County, and Dolores.
