County Fair asks you to “get your fair face on”

“Get your fair face on” is the theme of the 2016 San Juan County Fair, which runs from August 5 to 13 at the San Juan County Fairgrounds in Monticello.
Months of hard work and preparation by local residents will showcase some of the best talents and skills the county has to offer in a variety of events.
Two royalties have been named, animals have been carefully fed, fruits and vegetables have been raised and arts and crafts have been created.
There are a number of new events and activities at the fair, including a photo scavenger hunt, an archery shoot, and a fun team goat roping competition.
See the back page of the San Juan Record, or the SJR website at www.sjrnews.com, for a full listing of fair events. A fair guide has been mailed to county residents and will also be available at the fairgrounds.
Blue Mountain Round-up Rodeo events will open the first weekend of the fair, with Pro-Am roping on Friday, August 5 at 6 p.m. Ranch bronc and wild brahma bull riding will take place on Saturday, August 1 at 7 p.m.
Both events take place at the San Juan County Fairgrounds.
Spectators are encouraged to wear pink on Saturday night to support breast cancer awareness.
Spectators may want to wait till the evening to put on their pink shirts, as getting covered in mud is likely Saturday morning.
The Down ‘N Dirty Mud Bog starts Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. The event features vehicles large and small.
On Monday, August 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. is the annual Monticello High School wrestling team Navajo Taco dinner.
Afterwards, a Family Game Show Night begins at 7 p.m. with Fairly Fun and Minute-To-Win-It games, providing fun for the whole family.
A family movie night begins at dark (about 9 p.m.) on Monday evening.
On Tuesday, August 9 at 5 p.m. will be the annual Mud Volleyball Tournament.
The Farm Bureau Talent Find begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10. Afterwards, the fair exhibits will open to the public.
A new event this year is a Goat Roping Pick and Draw at the Junior Livestock pavilion on Wednesday night beginning at 7 p.m.
Country Western singer Keith Anderson will be live in concert at the fairgrounds on Thursday, August 11 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Maddie Wilson is the opening act.
A host of additional events, culminating in the annual Jr. Livestock Auction and the Blue Mountain Youth Rodeo will take place on the final weekend of the fair.
The Miss San Juan Royalty is Queen Abbi Nielson with Molly Anderson, McKady Grover and Sierra Monson as her attendants.
The Blue Mountain Roundup Rodeo Royalty is Queen Shelly Lewis, Attendant Kiley Tracy, and Junior Queen Tayia Bennett.
Little Mister Wrangler is Wyatt Ivins and Little Miss Wrangler is Karley Ann Tracy.
The San Juan County Fair requires volunteer service from a host of area residents, under the direction of Fair Manager Anna Fredericks.
