County Fair opens Saturday

“Jam Packed with Fun” is the theme of the 2018 San Juan County Fair, which runs August 4 to 11 at the County Fairgrounds in Monticello.
Months of hard work and preparation by local residents will showcase the talent and skill the county has to offer in a variety of events.
Three royalties have been named, animals have been carefully fed, fruits and vegetables have been raised, and arts and crafts have been created.

A fair guide was mailed to county residents and will also be available at the fairgrounds.
Saturday is Pink Day at the fair for breast cancer awareness.
The Down ‘N Dirty Mud Bog starts at 10:30 a.m. at the fairgrounds and is free for spectators. The event features vehicles large and small. 
The 4-H Horseshow begins at 11 a.m.
New this year is an Altitude Mud Run sponsored by Monticello Youth Running. There will be several divisions and races, including a 5K.
Blue Mountain Round-up Rodeo events will open the first weekend of the fair on Saturday, August 4 with Ranch Bronc, Brahma Bull Riding, and Barrels at 7 p.m. at the San Juan County Fairgrounds.
A dance on Saturday night from 9 to 11:30 p.m. will feature music from many genres. Door prizes will be given throughout the night and dance instructors are available.
On Monday, August 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. is the annual Monticello High School wrestling team Navajo Taco dinner.
Afterwards, a “Fair”ly Fun Game Show Night begins at 7 p.m. with Minute To-Win-It games, providing fun for the family.
A family movie night begins at dark (about 9 p.m.) on Monday evening.
Tuesday, August 7 at 5 p.m. is the annual Mud Volleyball Tournament.
The Farm Bureau Talent Find begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8.
Afterward, fair exhibits will open to the public.
Pick n’ Draw Jackpot Team Goat Roping will take place at the Junior Livestock pavilion on Wednesday night beginning at 7 p.m.
4-H Fun at the Fair kids activities begin at noon on Thursday, August 9. The Children’s Fair continues on the grass from 2-4 p.m.
Live in concert at the fairgrounds on Thursday, August 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m., is world famous Diamond Rio. Eric Dodge is the opening act.
The All Night Softball tournament starts Friday, August 10 at 6 p.m. at the Monticello ballfields. 
Local Rodeo and Horse Games take place on Friday at 7 p.m.
A host of additional events, culminating in the annual Jr. Livestock Auction and the Blue Mountain Youth Rodeo, will take place on the final weekend of the fair.
Miss San Juan is Queen Elise Thayn with first attendant Apsen English, second attendant Kiley Tracy, and third attendant Journey Baird.
The Blue Mountain Roundup Rodeo Queen is Shelly Lewis with attendant Davi Bowring. Jr Queen is Tayia Bennett.
Little Miss Wrangler is Paisley Monson, daughter of Logan and Sara Monson. Little Mister is Jed Grover, son of JJ and Tamra Grover.
The fair requires volunteer service from a host of area residents, under the direction of Fair Manager Anna Fredericks.
