Diplomas for 205 grads

Diplomas will be presented to 205 high school graduates in the San Juan School District in ceremonies that will continue through the week.
The graduation ceremonies started on Monday, May 19 at Navajo Mountain High School. A total of 14 graduates received diplomas, which represents the largest graduating class in the history of the school. The students are led by valedictorian Katrina Kinsel.
Featured speaker is Orlo Knight, a former principal at the high school.
On Wednesday, May 21, 46 graduates will receive diplomas from Monticello High School. Graduation ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.
Top students at Monticello include valedictorian Arianna Reay and salutatorians Austin Wilcox and Rebecca Getter.
Featured guest speaker is Wayne Erickson, who is retiring after a successful career as a music teacher.
Erickson began his career at Monticello High School in 1971 and went on to teach at Snow College and Utah Valley University. Five years ago, he returned to Monticello to complete his career.
San Juan High School will present diplomas to 81 graduates on Thursday, May 22 at 5 p.m. in the school auditorium.
Sixteen of the graduates will receive summa cum laude honors for having a grade point average above 3.9. An additional nine students have a GPA between 3.8 and 3.9.
Guest speaker is Mike Bowers, a popular former teacher and coach. Student speakers include Kelly Palmer, Koy Nielson, and Tristen Johnson. Michael Blake will perform music at the event.
Monument Valley High School will present diplomas to 36 graduates in a ceremony set to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 23.
Patricia Seltzer, a former principal at the school, is the guest speaker. Students are led by valedictorian Nolten Housley and salutatorian Tiffany Cly.
Whitehorse High School will present diplomas to 29 graduates in a graduation ceremony set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24 in the high school gymnasium.
The graduating students are led by valedictorian Sheldon Saltclaw and salutatorian Cedal Armstrong. Motivational speaker Avery Danny will address the group.
The San Juan school district operates 12 schools throughout the sprawling district, including five high schools.
