Youths honored for their kindness

The efforts of outstanding youth in area communities have been honored with the “Making A Difference” Community Youth Award campaign.

The campaign is the work of a variety of law enforcement, city, county, and federal agencies, along with local businesses.

They are all members of the San Juan County Prevention, Action, Collaboration (SJCPAC) Coalition.

Each month, one student from each school in the San Juan School District is nominated by school counselors for the award.

The focus is to honor youth who make contributions of kindness or positivity toward others and by doing so, help make a difference in their school and community.

Besides promoting prosocial behaviors and looking for the good in the youth, the program is a good way for youth to bond with their community.

This raises protection against youth substance use and other unhealthy behaviors.

Each student who receives the award gets a backpack from the SJCPAC that is filled with swag and goodies.

Look for the backpacks and look for photos of the honored students in the San Juan Record.
