Good results at Utah History Day Fair

Five students from Monticello High School earned a trip to the National History Day Fair when they were named state champions at the Utah History Day Fair on April 28.
“Conflict and Compromise” is the theme of the state competition. It was held at Hillcrest Junior High School in Murray.
Two winners are named in each category, with the winners advancing to the National History Day competition in College Park, MD in June.
Ellie Thayn and Aspen English are state champions in the senior division for their group performance on Women’s Sufferage.
Matt Beh and Evan Rowley are the state champions in the senior division for their group exhibit on the Berlin Wall.
Also claiming a state championship is Madi Keyes for a documentary on the Treaty of Versailles. Keyes is an eighth grade student at MHS and is the first junior high student from Monticello to win the top award in the state.
Winning honorable mention honors for an historical paper on American Eugenics is AnnSheri Reay.
In addition, Lynda Boyle was named the Utah History Day Teacher of the Year. She also advances to a competition for national teacher of the year.
Other Monticello High School students who participated in the state competition include Tate Ramsay, Lara Whitaker, Carson Wells, Halle Morrison, Taylor Lewis, Saydi Young, Emilee Robinson, Kylie Rogers, Kylee Davis, Lily Long, Crystal Alba, Steven Robinson, Parker Walker, Reed Hedglin, Colton Lewis, Britton Brewer, Lucas Hatch, Adam Bunker, Chance Deeter, Bryson Henderson, and Kiley Tracy.
In 2017, more than 7,000 students in Utah competed in History Day events, including school, regional, and state programs.
