High School graduates to receive diplomas

Nearly 220 diplomas will be presented to graduates from area high schools this week as another school year comes to a close across the sprawling district.
Monticello High School graduation will take place Wednesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The Class of 2025 Valedictorian is Aaron Gillette with Marah Long as Salutatorian.
Lynda Boyle will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony, which will honor the 24 members of the Senior class.

There are 112 members of the senior class at San Juan High School. The graduation ceremony will be Thursday, May 22 at 9 a.m. on the football field in Blanding.
Speakers will include Student Body President Macee Palmer, and class presidents Hayden Shumway, Cohen Lyman and Paige Bitsoie.

Navajo Mountain High School will hold its graduation commencement ceremony on Friday, May 23 at 10 am in the school gymnasium.  Eleven Jaguars are graduating, including ten seniors and one junior. 
Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren will attend the ceremony and San Juan School District Board Member Nelson Yellowman will offer the keynote address. 
The senior class selected Yellowman to honor and thank him for his service to the Navajo Mountain community during his 19 years of service on the school board.  
Jaylynn Atene earned the honor of Valedictorian for the Class of 2025.  ALonnah Holiday is the Salutatorian.  Cheyenne Williams served as the Student Body President. 
School Principal Ryan Carlson said, “The administration of the high school would like to congratulate all of the graduates and honor the hard work they have put forth.  I wish them well in their further pursuits in life.”

Monument Valley High School commencement exercises are Friday, May 23 at 2 pm. Keynote Speaker is Dr. Herman Cody.
There are 36 seniors in the class of 2025. Valedictorian is Isaac Davis and Salutatorian is Kaylisa Tome.
The national anthem will be performed with the Navajo Flute by senior Shaundin Blackwater and military colors will be presented by community members represented by various Armed Forces.

Whitehorse High School commencement will be held Saturday, May 24 at 9 a.m. There are 34 members of the senior class. The guest speaker is Pax Harvey.
The national anthem will be performed in Dine Bizaad and the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to families who have all their children graduate from WHS.
The school is celebrating that more than 60 percent of graduates have a CTE Pathway Completer status!
WHS does not name a Valedictorian or Salutatorian but rather honors students graduating with honors (3.5 to 3.69 GPA) and highest honors (3.7+ GPA).

Additional promotion services are being held at other schools in the district. On Monday, May 19, La Sal school promotion began at 6 p.m.
On Wednesday, May 21, events include Bluff Elementary promotion at 1 p.m., promotion for Montezuma Creek Elementary at 5 p.m. and Monument Valley 8th grade at 6 p.m.
Thursday, May 22 promotions are at Monticello Elementary at 1 p.m. and a combined sixth grade and kindergarten at Tse’Bii’Nidzisgai Elementary at 1 p.m.
Friday, May 23 promotions include Blanding Elementary at 8:15 a.m., with Albert R. Lyman Middle School at 10 a.m.
