School District holds CTE competition
To celebrate CTE Month, San Juan School District CTE, in cooperation with USU Blanding and USU Eastern, hosted the annual Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Competition. The event was held in February.
Nearly 250 secondary students represented the following Career and Technical Student Organizations: HOSA (Future Health Professionals), FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) FFA (National FFA Organization), SkillsUSA (Skills for the American Workforce), FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), and DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America).
Students competed in 18 co-curricular events to showcase their skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities.
While some events were hands-on, such as Live Welding Skills and Drone Flight, other events required preparation for presentations to an audience of judges.
Winners in Agriculture Technology include Cannon Kartchner, Weston Baker, Landon Turk and Evan Bradford. Second place goes to Makenna Peterson, Grace Coleman, John Leber, and Karley Tracy, while third goes to Nizhoni Sloan, TaShawn Nez, Jerious Clark, and Tobias Grey.
The winner in Automotive is Tucker Shelton, followed by JD Palmer and Tyler Jacobsen.
The winner in Business Plan is Camden Crofts, with second to Gabrielle Dance and Hope Palmer, and third to Tatem Eskee and Kaleigh Chee.
The Business Plan Middle Level winners are Lennon Palmer and Tessa Baum, with second to Murryn Suttlemyre and Adri Lopez and third to Ava Davis and Scarlett Black.
The Career Investigation even was won by Emri Black, with Christian Hunt second and Taverie Johnson third.
Elsie Dalley win the Community Service event with Elsie Grover and Alice Jeppson second and Liam Lacy, Ava Bayles and Evelia Knight third.
The top team in CPR is Santiago Davila and Brad Skow, followed by Tzosilah Etsitty and Lance Begaye in second, and Bodie Christensen and Weston Baker in third.
Winning the Creed Speaking event is Aspen Palmer, followed by Finn Tomco and Stihl Black.
Markie Bowers was the winner of the Drone Flight, followed by Kaden Pehrson and Rachel Price.
Top finisher in the Job Interview event is Kooper Nielson, followed by Marlee Mack and Mikaylah Gilette.
The Middle Level Job Interview event was won by Payton Hosler, followed by Brooklyn Black and Harriet McNaughton.
The winning team in the Greenhouse / Nursery competition is Cambree Chamberlain, Rebecca Chamberlain, and Katelyn Peterson, with Daisy Atene, Julia Lesue, Hailey Parrish, and Aiyana Parker in second, and Zada Klein and Jaylynn Mooneyhan in third.
Ever Kendrick won the Photography competition, followed by Lindon English and Alex Marian.
Pin Design was won by Brinley Jones, with Josie Mack and Dani Black in second, and Allie Carling in third.
Dodger Black won Public Speaking, followed by Magenta Crane and Colee Crofts.
The Middle Level Public Speaking winner is Addi Long, followed by Camille Dalley and Olivia Plemmons.
The winner in Welding In-Person Skills is Logan Joe, with Owen Clark second and Sloane Sheppard third.
The top Welding Sculpture was by Thaddeus Smith, followed by Stockton Holden and Bronx Black.
Students also attended program presentations that highlighted USU Blanding and USU Eastern collegiate programs.
San Juan School District appreciates all the volunteers, judges, and industry professionals who supported the youth in San Juan County.
