Whitehorse High Sterling Scholars 2024
One Whitehorse High student was among the runner-ups in the 44th annual Southeastern Utah Sterling Scholar competition.
The winners were announced on March 4 at a presentation at Monticello High School. A total of 63 students from Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan counties competed in the event, which has been held each year since 1981.
Izaya Bob, a student from Whitehorse High School, is the runner-up in Dance.
The Sterling Scholars event is sponsored by the Southeastern Utah Sterling Scholar Association, KSL, Deseret News, The Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation and Emery Telcom.
Seniors from Whitehorse, San Juan, Monticello, Monument Valley, Green River, Navajo Mountain, Grand, Emery, and Carbon high schools can enter the competition in one of 14 categories.
Categories include Drama and Vocal Performance, Family and Consumer Science, Math, Dance, Social Science, Science, Forensics and Speech, Music, English, Skilled and Technical Science Education, Business and Marketing, Visual Arts, Computer Technology, and General Scholarship.
Two San Juan School District students are among the winners in the 44th annual Southeastern Utah Sterling Scholar competition. An additional ten local students were named as runner-up.
