ELSIE DEE

School Board member since 2007
Elsie Dee, candidate for district 3 school board, is currently on the school board. She was elected in 2006 and 2010.
Her previous experience includes being on the board for the National Johnson O’Malley Association for three years, the Utah Developmental Disability Council (UDDC) for eight, and the Navajo Nation Advisory Council on Disabilities for six. She was also a community organizer for the State of Utah ABCD Project for a year.
The San Juan Record reached out to Dee for an interview, but she declined. The following quotes are excerpts from a statement Dee wrote for the San Juan Record in 2014.
“We must never give up,” Dee said. “I will continue to focus on raising expectations for all students.”
Dee says in her statement that she believes that education is the key to opportunity for all students. By acquiring skills and cultural growth, she states they can become “contributing citizens.”
In her 2014 statement, Dee also pointed to a need for accountability.
“The most important accountability in Utah’s education is to the parents of each child,” she said. “Accountability is wonderfully active in our schools and community, where parents and educators are actively having that communication and working together to meet the challenge of learning for our children.”
