Fall sport All-state honors

A host of area students have received all-state honors.

Leading the way were seven members of the San Juan High School football team, including unanimous first team selections Kohler Black, Nathan Einerson and Jace Holliday. They are joined by Terron Jack, Stetler Shumway, Oliver Parker and Peyton Black.

Earning all state honors for the Monticello Buckaroo football team are Chase Randall, Jessie Barton, Gabe Beh and Daniel Torres. Football honors are given by the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune, based upon the recommendations of coaches.

Several athletes earned post season honors for their efforts on the volleyball courts. San Juan senior Sagan Shumway was a unanimous first team pick by both newspapers. She is joined by teammates Shaylee Grover, Kelsi Meyer, Briona Laws, Alyssa Simpson and Brooke Bowring.

Three members of the Monticello volleyball team earned post season honors, including freshman Swayzi Slade, Kendyl Boyd and Mersadez Slade. Jessica Crank earned honors from Monument Valley High School.

In addition, four students are on the Navajo Times All-Area All-Star football teams. They include Oliver Parker from San Juan, Shawn Dickson and Janathan Yazzie from Whitehorse, and Josh Nelson, from Monument Valley.
