Fleming is 2A “Superfan”

Danny Fleming, a well-known supporter of athletics in San Juan County, has been named the 2A Superfan of the Year by the Utah High School Activities Association. Fleming is one of five fans, one from each classification, to be honored by the association.
Fleming has served for nearly 30 years as an official for football, basketball, baseball and softball. He is an avid fan of sporting events and coached youth teams for the same time. In addition, he was the “Voice of Sports” in southeastern Utah sports for two decades as an announcer on radio station KUTA.
Danny writes, “As an athlete in high school, my father never saw me play because he was blind. I tried to announce the games on the radio as if I was describing what I saw to my father. That made it special. The excitement, attitude, thrill and even the agony are all part of high school sports and activities.”
“These young people are the future,” he continues. “If I can in some small way, have an influence on molding them, then I will have succeeded.”
Danny and his wife, Karen, are the parents of four children and six grandchildren.
A native of Kentucky, Fleming ended up in Blanding in 1980 after serving in the Vietnam War and working in Houston, TX. He is the Blanding City Water and Waste Superintendent.
