Full schedule of events set for San Juan County Fair

A summer of activities culminates in coming days at the San Juan County Fair, which runs August 6 through 14 at the county fairgrounds in Monticello.
Featured events for the first weekend of the fair include the Blue Mountain Round-Up Rodeo on Friday and Saturday evenings, starting at 8 p.m.
In addition, the Four Corners Shoot-Out races will be held at the Bull Hollow Raceway, between Monticello and Blanding on Hwy 191, beginning at noon on Saturday.
Sandstone Tire and Towing will sponsor a Mud Bog at the fairgrounds at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Unique Creations in Monticello will host a scrapbooking contest on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hypnotist Shawn Fetters will perform an entertaining show at the Junior Livestock Show Ring on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m.
The number of events grows as the week progresses, including a “Game Show Night” on Monday at 6:30 p.m. including “Minute to Win It” games, a Navajo Taco dinner and Farm Bureau Talent Find on Tuesday evening, and mud volleyball tournament beginning Wednesday, August 11 at 5:30 p.m.

Cowboy Boots and Country Roots is the theme of the annual fair, and three local cowboys have been honored as fair volunteers of the year. They are San Juan County Commissioners Bruce Adams, Lynn Stevens, and Kenneth Maryboy.
While the events at the fairgrounds culminate the fair, a large number of events have already taken place, resulting in the selection of royalty for the fair.
The Blue Mountain Roundup Rodeo features a royalty of Emily Hanson and Abigail Thatcher and a Junior Royalty of Breanne Slade and Tara Lynn Frost.
Miss San Juan County is Kara Redd, with attendants Brooke Bowring and Janessa Bowring.
Lil Miss Wrangler is Ashley Musselman and Lil Mister Wrangler is Zach Thayn.
The events are organized under the direction of Fair Director Anna Thayn, maintenance superintendent Josh Shakespeare, and grounds crew Kedric Curtis, Josh Keyes, and Steven Redd. They only come together with the help of a host of volunteers.
County residents wishing to enter exhibits in the fair should be aware of the change to the open class and 4-H entries. See the ad on page 8 for more details.
