COVID-19 cases continue to grow, particularly in the Monticello area

Active COVID-19 cases in San Juan County are now at 116, with half of those cases coming from Monticello.

Monticello increased by ten cases over the past week going from 47 to 57. Blanding also saw an increase of ten cases from 30 to 40. The Montezuma Creek and Aneth area decreased from 18 to 15.

In order to better protect the identities of those with COVID-19 the health department’s reporting has four areas with a small number of cases.

For example, last week Bluff was reported to have three cases, this week the county is reporting less than five.

There are less than five cases in the La Sal and Spanish Valley area and less than five in the Mexican Hat area. There are zero cases in the Monument Valley and Navajo Mountain areas.

San Juan County remains at the High transmission risk. According to state guidelines, social gatherings such as family dinners, and get-togethers with friends will be limited to ten or fewer people.

Additionally, masks are required to be worn in public indoor settings and outdoors when physical distancing is not feasible.

Fatalities in San Juan County have held steady at 30 with the last death occurring in September.
