High paying traffic stop
On February 17, Utah Highway Patrol troopers stopped a 1999 black Honda Accord for speeding north of Monticello. Occupants of the vehicle were traveling southbound on SR 191, en route back to Tucson coming from Denver. Troopers were suspicious that the occupants were involved in criminal activity. It was noticed that the front passenger air bag had been tampered with. Troopers gained access behind the glove box and discovered two bricks of U.S. currency. The air bag had been completely removed and altered into a make shift compartment. A UHP canine made a positive drug indication on the make shift compartment with the currency still in the compartment. Both subjects disclaimed ownership and knowledge of the currency. Total U.S. currency seized is $26,000. Photo courtesy Utah Highway Patrol
