Hole in the Rock Expedition is subject of new documentary

The Hole in the Rock Expedition is featured in a new documentary that will premier at Bluff Fort on Thursday, December 1 at 6:30 p.m. (See the ad on page 3.)
The documentary will be shown on KBYU TV on Monday, December 5 at 7 p.m.
The Hole in the Rock Expedition is rightfully recognized as one of the greatest feats accomplished in western American history.
KBYU-TV has produced a powerful documentary that will premiere on Monday, December 5 at 7 p.m., with an encore presentation Saturday, December 10 at 4:30 p.m.
Hole in the Rock Expedition tells the story of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on their journey to settle the San Juan area of Southeastern Utah.
This documentary is hosted by author and educator, Gerald N. Lund, who came to the project with a remarkable background in church history, having written several series of books, including “The Work and The Glory”, as well as “Fire and Steel”, and “The Undaunted”, which recounts the story of the San Juan pioneers.
Hole in the Rock Expedition, produced and directed by Rob Sibley, depicts the miraculous feats accomplished by these individuals.
“One of the thrills of producing a documentary of this type is talking with descendants of those who made the trek,” said Sibley.
“Hearing accounts of their ancestors, and reading family journals transforms the dry historical facts into exciting, personal and touching stories.”
Shot on location, Hole in the Rock Expedition has visually stunning photography that shows the barren, desolate landscape of Southern Utah much as it was when the pioneers blazed their trail.
Todd Blickenstaff, a BYU Broadcasting employee and descendant of the Hole in the Rock pioneers, describes his experience working at actual locations of the trek.
“Retracing the steps taken by my great grandfather, L.H. Redd Sr., was personally very rewarding for me,” said Blickenstaff.
“The time spent inside the actual Hole in the Rock helped me gain a greater understanding of the vision and fortitude shown by those called to settle the San Juan region and the direct impact it’s had on my family and me. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.”
Theirs is a story of hardships, faith, determination, ingenuity, commitment and courage. This original documentary produced by KBYU-TV will include stories of their mission call and their nearly impossible journey to what became Bluff.
