Inaugural Renaissance Fair
Blanding's Inaugural Renaissance Fair was held on September 6 and 7, 2013 at the Centennial Park on the south end of town. The fair was coordinated by Dan and Heather Raisor who wanted to boost the number of people coming to Blanding to help the local restaurant and motel businesses, even though they have no vested interest in that industry.
Approximately 500 people attended. Local artisans sold period trinkets, pottery, crafts, books, airbrush tattoos, and Tuscan Garden Restaurant sold Italian sausage sandwiches. The pony rides and free crafts were a big hit. Many people came in costume, which is appropriate for Renaissance Fairs. Visitors came from as far away as the Salt Lake Valley and Snowflake, AZ.
Weiss magic entertained the crowd with five shows. The Castles and Caverns Role Playing Game was demonstrated and the Raisor family revealed part of their royal genealogy. Dave Ketchum, a professional disc jockey, played the music of the time along with newer pieces of Celtic music. Many plans are in the works to have more entertainment, games and fun at next year's fair.
