KENNETH MARYBOY

2007-2014 District 3 County Commissioner
Party : Democrat
Kenneth Maryboy is a longtime Navajo Nation council member who also served as District 3 County Commissioner from 2007 to 2014.
Maryboy, also a former board member to the Navajo Housing Authority, says infrastructure development in his district is a top priority.
“I think one of the biggest issues right now is roads,” he said. “There is enough room to partner with other parties — mainly the federal government and the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Navajo nation — to fix the roads and bus routes.”
Maryboy wants to improve economic development by partnering with outside organizations. . He believes forming contracts with these groups could help facilitate better cooperation between Native and non-Native communities.
Maryboy says if he is elected he will focus on bringing more services, including libraries and post offices, to remote communities on the reservation. He says he will also prioritize tackling water negotiations in the San Juan River.
“The biggest thing is that we can’t forget who we are and who we are supposed to serve and my job here is to serve the people that voted for me,” he said. “I’m here just to make sure that we make San Juan County great again.”
Maryboy says his past work as County Commissioner is not an issue in this race.
“Everybody asks me how I would feel if I go back into office,” he said. “My position is to do what I need to do. I’m not there for a popularity contest.”
