Columnist named La Sal Citizen of the Year

Maxine Deeter was named La Sal Citizen of the Year at a gathering at the La Sal Community Center on December 27. Deeter, a longtime resident of La Sal, has served the community for decades, including many years as the the writer of Northern News column in the San Juan Record. Maxine was surprised when La Sal citizens showed up to cheer when Hardy Redd present the award. She thought the party was to celebrate her husband Steve’s 75th birthday. The award is a beautiful clock with the inscription: “Presented to Maxine Deeter, Citizen of the Year. For a lifetime of love and service to family and community. La Sal Community, 2021.
