UPDATE July 11 3:30 pm:
The fire evacuation alert from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office has been updated to areas off Upper 2 Mile Road to the Utah-Colorado border.
The fire is now estimated at 6,500 acres and has resulted in two primary homes, two secondary residences and five outbuildings confirmed lost in the Mountain Shadow area.
An estimated 250 people have been evacuated with 20 more homes remain threatened.
With resources stretched thins officials are again asking people to avoid the area.
A fire reported Thursday afternoon near Old La Sal has grown to an estimated 4,000 acres less than 24 hours later with 0% containment.
Officials share that some structures have been impacted.
First reported on July 10, the Deer Creek Fire started just north of SR 46 also known as the Old La Sal road; the fire has since moved eastward towards the Colorado border.
The effort to fight the fire closed the highway Thursday afternoon but it was reopened Friday morning.
Still officials are urging the public to avoid the area, to use extreme caution and keep the road clear for firefighting equipment and personnel.
Evacuations are in place for anyone within five miles of the incident or Meadow Shadows Estate as directed by the county sheriffs department. The county is directing displaced people who need to get out of the heat to the Community Center in La Sal.
Crews are working to strengthen containment lines using dozers and natural rock barriers. Hot, dry and breezy conditions are expected Friday.
The cause of the flames are still under investigation.
The Great Basin Incident Management Team 4 will take command of the fire on Sunday.
