This is the first Frank L. Cole book I’ve read. He is an established fantasy writer at Shadow Mountain publishing. His newest offering is a futuristic, somewhat dystopian genre.
The author’s love of books is a thinly-veiled theme, but his writing is so fluid it draws you right into the adventure. Our heroine, Juni Knox, is an ambitious teen with a supportive but difficult home life, laced with a bit of mystery.
She engages on the internet as often as our current real society to answer trivial and important questions. Life is full of obligations and dangers and she becomes an unwitting participant in a large conspiracy theory.
The book’s themes are quite poignant to today’s real life and there is a parallel plague to match our recent pandemic. But its underlying message provides food for thought. Recommended for ages 8-12, I found it to be entertaining and provoking. If I were an educator, I would definitely fit this into a reading curriculum.
I am a thorough reader who doesn’t miss a prologue or acknowledgment page, and Cole rewarded me with a fun scavenger hunt at the end.
