Another successful Jr Livestock show

The San Juan Junior Livestock program had great success in 2018, culminating with the annual livestock auction at the San Juan County Fair on August 11.
The Junior Livestock and Mini Livestock programs involve scores of area youth. They and their supporters spend the summer preparing to show their animals at the fair.
A total of 146 animals were shown at the 2018 fair, including 108 Junior Livestock show animals and 38 animals in the Mini Livestock program.
The 137 animals sold at the auction generated $183,000. An additional $33,000 in add-on donations brought the total amount generated to nearly $216,000.
The grand champion steer, raised by Saydee Adams, was purchased by Jones and DeMille for $6,475.
The first reserve champion steer, raised by Taiya Bennett, was purchased by the Hello Beautiful Salon and Jay and Lorraine Rose.
The second reserve champion steer, raised by Brooklyn Grover, was purchased by Justin and Stephanie Ivins.
In total, 32 steers were sold at the auction, at an average price of nearly $3,500. Total revenue for steer sales was $112,530.
The grand champion Junior Livestock hog, raised by Jade Nielson, was purchased by Doug McCoughlan for $1,554.
The first reserve Junior Livestock hog, raised by Adison Ivins, was purchased by Basin Co-Op.
The second reserve Junior Livestock hog, raised by Mason Atwood, was purchased by Sonderegger, Inc.
In total, 38 hogs were sold in the Junior Livestock auction, at an average price of $943. Total revenue for hog sales was $43,560.
The grand champion Junior Livestock lamb, raised by Ali Barry, was purchased by Montezuma Hearing for $825.
The first reserve Junior Livestock lamb, raised by Shelly Lewis, was purchased by Utah Navajo Health Systems.
The second reserve Junior Livestock lamb, raised by Alise Lewis, was purchased by S Power.
In total, 15 lambs were sold in the Junior Livestock auction at an average price of $602. Total revenue for lamb sales was $13,154.
The grand champion goat, raised by Hannah Barry, was purchased by Basin Co-Op for $570.
The first reserve goat, raised by Ashley Adair, was purchased by Empire Electric.
The second reserve goat, raised by Ryan McCullough, was purchased by Blue Mountain Hospital.
In total, 14 goats were sold at auction, at an average price of $336. Total revenue for goat sales was $7,939.
The Mini Livestock auction was also a success. The grand champion mini lamb, raised by Brynley Adams, was purchased by Doug McCoughlan for $735.
The first reserve mini lamb, raised by Cameron Adair, was purchased by Red Summit Ranch.
The second reserve mini lamb, raised by Grant Wiggington, was purchased by Bedrock Trust.
In total, 16 lambs were sold in the mini auction, at an average price of $572. Total revenue for lamb sales was $11,205.
The grand champion mini hog, raised by Chezney Ivins, was purchased by Harris Farms for $1,360.
The first reserve mini hog, raised by Aspyn Ivins, was purchased by Primary Residential Mortgage.
The second reserve mini hog, raised by Tegan Harris, was purchased by Stephanie Ivins.
In total, 22 hogs were sold in the mini auction at an average price of $1,075. Total revenue for hog sales was $27,554.
Jeremy Lyman, a member of the Junior Livestock Board, reports that the livestock show and auction was a tremendous success.
“The community has been so supportive over the years and the experience for the kids who participate is invaluable,” said Lyman.
