If you want to be a part of the fun and learn something new, join one or more of the new or ongoing clubs at the county libraries in Blanding and Monticello.
Reading classes for children and adults begin on April 14 at the Blanding Library.
Mrs. Julia Brooks will be teaching Phonics to those who need help or want a head start in learning how to read.
Classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday with classes for children ages 4+ running from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Adult classes will go from 6 to 7 p.m. Pre-registration is required for both reading groups as there is limited space.
To sign up, or for more information, contact the Blanding Library: blibrary@sanjuancountyut.gov – 435-678-2335 – 25 West 300 South.
The CHIBI Chapters Anime Club meets at the library in Blanding on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. with the next club dates scheduled for April 24, May 8, and May 22.
A new Art Club, hosted by the Blanding Library, is every other Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Blanding Library Community Garden Club meets every other Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
The next class on April 22 will focus on prepping seed trays, paper pots, starting seeds indoors, and indoor sowing/outdoor sowing.
Classes will continue through the summer and fall. Upcoming classes May 6 and May 20 will include hardening seedlings, low tunnels, and other topics. Contact the library for more information.
In conjunction with San Juan County Libraries, a Regenerative Gardening Initiative sponsored by the Center for American Legacy Studies begins this spring.
The goal is to help start 50 new gardens in San Juan County from May 15 to June 15, 2025. The Gardening Initiative is planning on last frost dates as May 15 for Blanding and June 10 for Monticello.
If you have never gardened before and want to start a vegetable garden, this is your chance. Initiative helpers will help you get started on your own garden in a 10 x 10 foot space. Participants will need to supply their own materials and garden spot.
A list of needed materials may be found at either library in Monticello or Blanding. Building a garden is on a first-come, first-served basis. If interested contact sb@thecals.com or (435) 590-1661.
Through the month of April, the ever popular Craft Club at the Monticello Library is offering two crafting times, one at 3:15 and one at 4:00 p.m. to better accommodate children’s current schedules due to spring volleyball, wrestling, and other activities. April crafts include making paper Easter baskets April 17 and Beach Art Pictures on April 24. Adults are welcome to come to Craft Club too!
If you are Spring Cleaning and have craft supplies you are no longer using, please consider donating them to the Monticello Library Craft Club! All supplies will be greatly appreciated and will be put to good use.
Craft paint, seashells, ribbon, lace, silk flowers, scrapbook paper and scrapbooking materials, stickers, crafting gemstones & jewels, small brads, googly eyes, large #10 size tin cans, miniatures, small sponge brushes, jingle bells, popsicle-sticks, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, and felt, would be especially useful, but any kind of crafting materials will be gladly accepted. Thank you!
