Kigalia Fine Arts presents Kirk Hoggard live in concert
Monticello native Kirk Hoggard’s earliest memories of music date back to when he sung the Unicorn Song by the Irish Rovers and won accordion lessons at the age of seven.
During high school Hoggard was involved in music programs, was twice awarded all-state tuba player, and received jazz band honors playing bass.
His love for swing music was influenced by the Francis Lyman Orchestra (That’s Denece’s late husband and Duane’s, Lynette’s, Kent’s, Kelly’s and Phil’s father) where he played bass.
At age 17 he took his place playing bass in the band Chalice, where he spent three years playing in Utah and touring the Midwest.
In 1990 Hoggard created Loner and Red, a one-man show. He later co-founded the group Livin’ Highway which was featured in Park City during the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
After this the group Black Tie Affair was formed, a group that performed Jazz standards.
In 2008 Hoggard returned to his roots to play songs of the Old West with his family band, Silver Sage while running a chuck wagon dinner show in Delta, UT.
From 2009-2023 Hoggard worked as the Talent Coordinator for the Capitol Arts Living History Festival held each summer in Fillmore, UT.
In 2017 he went back to his one-man show, performing in restaurants and dinner clubs and occasionally at cowboy gatherings, sharing historical songs and music.
Since 2020 Hoggard has been part of many groups, including Cherokee Trail and, most recently, his rockabilly group, The Beatdiggers.
Hoggard sticks to his Hole in the Rock roots and the example his mother, Mary Lou, and his Aunt Gerd taught him along with the example of his father and brothers.
On Thursday, October 16 locals will have an opportunity to hear Kirk Hoggard share the many songs he loves in a live concert sponsored by Kigalia Fine Arts.
The show begins at 7 p.m. at the USU Arts and Events Center in Blanding. San Juan School District students and season pass holders receive free admission. For others, admission at the door is $10.
