Monticello Mayor race is closing, just six votes separate the candidates
Updated election results show that the race for Monticello Mayor is closing and still too close to call.
Results released on Wednesday afternoon show Kevin Dunn with 51 percent of the votes compared to 49 percent for incumbent Bayley Hedglin. The difference is just six votes. In preliminary results, Dunn carried a 26-vote lead over Hedglin.
San Juan County Clerk Lyman Duncan states that between the Monticello and Blanding elections, there are an additional 180 ballots that are ready to be counted. These results will be released tomorrow (Thursday, November 6). In addition, there may be a small number of provisional ballots that could be cured and counted in coming days.
While the mayor's race in Monticello is too tight to call, the other municipal races in San Juan County can be called. Shane Brewer (256 votes) and Todd Westcott (249) will become the two new members of the Monticello City Council. Others in the race are Tanner Holt (187 votes) and Pamela Pearson-Fuller (102).
In Blanding, Chad Moses (330 votes) is a clear winner, while Bret Hosler (276) appears to be heading to win over his nearest challenger, Jesse Grover (257). Incumbent Erik Grover has 237 votes.
Trevor Olsen has been elected Mayor of Blanding with 498 votes.
In Bluff, there was not a contested race but there will be three new elected officials, including Mayor Josh Ewing and Town Council members Spencer Wade and Gary Haws.
More updates will be posted as the situation develops.
