Lightning strike ignites oil fire

Local volunteer firefighters spent a cold and wet Super Bowl Sunday fighting a massive fire at the Resolute Oil Company facility north of Montezuma Creek. The stubborn tank fire was caused by a lightning strike and took nearly four hours to extinguish in the pouring rain. Crews from the Montezuma Creek and Bluff fire departments contributed to the firefighting effort. The efforts of the crews helped insure that nearby buildings and storage tanks were undamaged.
