Local piano students hit the city
Ten piano students and two advisors loaded up in a 12-passenger van and went to see the final round of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City on July 1.
The trip turned out to be a delightful adventure, starting with an unexpected invitation to dine at the Thai-Siam Restaurant on 12th South and State Street, compliments of owners Steven and Aleigh Redd. (Such good fortune comes rarely, but it helps to have son Dallin along on your excursion!) Students and advisors alike raved about one of the best meals they had ever tasted, most experiencing luscious Thai food for the first time.
The Redd’s restaurant is highly recommended by each and every one in the group—you can tell their sincerity by the smiles on their faces!
That evening, our little group from San Juan watched as Lukas Geniusas of Russia, wowed the audience and judges alike, playing Rachmaninoff’s 3rd Concerto to win first place and a $30,500 cash prize!
