Local students enjoy snow shoe field trip
Sixth grade students in San Juan County got the opportunity to enjoy the plentiful snow in the Abajos this winter.
Students from Blanding, Mexican Hat, Montezuma Creek, and Monticello elementary schools made the trek up to Dalton Springs campground for a snowshoe field trip with the National Park Service’s Canyon Country Outdoor Education program.
Drifts of snow taller than many students made obvious the importance of keeping one’s snowshoes securely attached!
Students participated in games and activities to learn about winter survival adaptations in plants and animals.
They performed heat conduction experiments and also investigated lichens.
