Miss San Juan crowned

Brittney Macdonald is Miss San Juan County, with Denae Carter as first attendant, Sydnee Felstead as second attendant, and Jessica McDaniel as third attendant.
The four young women came to vie for the title of Miss San Juan on Thursday, May 1.
The contestants were judged based on a private interview, evening wear, onstage questions, and talent.
They will be featured in both the July 4 and Pioneer Day parades, as well as at the San Juan County Fair in August.
Participation in the pageant has continually decreased, which means this could be the last year for Miss San Juan.
Macdonald earned a $1,000 scholarship as Miss San Juan, with scholarships totalng $500, $300, $200 awarded to the attendants.
Brittney Macdonald, daughter of Paul and Lisa Macdonald of Blanding, will attend Utah Valley University this fall to pursue a degree in Law.
Macdonald won the competition, in part, by singing “On My Own” from the Broadway play Les Miserables. Her performance included a portion performed in French.
First Attendant Denae Carter, of Monticello, will attend Utah State University in August and will study for a degree in Radiology. Denae is the daughter of Diane Eddington and Eric Carter. For her talent, Denae sang “Wherever you will go” by The Calling.
Second attendant Sydnee Felstead, of Blanding, is a daughter of Dustin and Beverly Felstead. Sydnee will complete an Associate’s degree at the Utah State University Eastern campus, and then attend Dixie State University to major in Radiology. She performed a piano solo to “Give me Strength” by Moises Nieto.
Third attendant Jessica McDaniel, is a daughter of Val and Robin McDaniel of Blanding. She presented to the judges a musical theatre piece “Good Morning Baltimore” from the Broadway musical Hairspray.
This fall, Jessica will attend Snow College to pursue a degree in Elementary Education.
