Monticello Council to appoint council member
Monticello is accepting the names of city residents who are interested in filling the unexpired term of City Councilman Tim Young. Young will take the oath of office as the mayor of Monticello, leaving an open spot on the city council.
Oaths of office will be administered at the January 14 meetings of the Monticello and Blanding city councils.
Two new Mayors and two new council members for each city were determined at the November general election. However, because of the vacancy in Monticello, a third new member of the city council will be appointed by the remaining members of the council.
Both meeting are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on January 14 at the city offices.
The City of Monticello is accepting letters of interest until Monday, January 13. It is expected that the first order of business at the January 14 meeting will be the appointment of a new member of the council.
All city residents are encouraged to consider the opportunity to serve.
In Blanding, Calvin Balch will assume the office of Mayor, replacing Toni Turk. Council members taking the oath of office in Blanding include Robert Ogle and Taylor Harrison.
In Monticello, Young takes the place of longtime mayor Doug Allen. New members of the city council are Steve Duke and George Rice, Jr.
