Monticello approves $25k spend to access $1.12 million grant for Loyds Lake

Members of the Monticello City Council voted to approve a $25,000 cash match to secure a $1,120,000 Outdoor Recreation Initiative (ORI) grant at a special November 18 meeting.
The grant is funded through the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation and will be used to for restoration work at Loyds Lake.
Council approved the use of $25,000 from the city’s fund for capital projects which currently holds $900,000.
The grant will be used to address issues at the lake including addressing embankment, drainage and grading issues along the trail.
Specific projects will also aim to fix three entrances to the trail, concrete stairs, kiosks, culverts, a decomposed granite trail surfacing and the repair or replacement of the three bridges.
During discussion council members urged for the use of metal for the new bridges to ensure long-term durability.
Members of the council thanked assistant city manager Megan Gallegos for her work in applying for the grant.
With the council unanimously approving the match for what was described as a “big win”.
At the meeting members of the city council also certified election results. The report noted a 57.53-percent turnout of Monticello’s 923 registered voters.
In the Mayoral race Kevin Dunn received 271 votes to 255 for Bayley Hedglin. City council members elected were Shane Brewer and Todd Westcott with Pamela Pearson Fuller and Tanner Holt also running for office.
