Louise Jones was recently named Citizen of the Year by the City of Monticello. The award was presented by City Councilman Nathan Chamberlain in behalf of Mayor Bayley Hedglin and the City of Monticello at the annual Christmas band and choir concert at Monticello High School.
To honor Louise, Mayor Hedglin wrote: “One of the things I love most about Monticello is that our community is strengthened not just by big projects or big titles, but by the quiet, consistent acts of service that often go unnoticed. Tonight, we have the privilege of recognizing someone whose everyday actions have made a lasting impact on our town.
“If you have ever driven through Monticello early in the morning or late in the afternoon, you may have seen Louise out walking her dog, Bella, something she does faithfully each day.
“But what makes Louise remarkable is not just the walk. It is the sack she carries with her and the care she takes to pick up trash along the way.
“No fanfare. No recognition asked for. Just a simple, steady commitment to keeping Monticello clean, beautiful, and welcoming.
“Over the years, her small daily choice has added up to something extraordinary. Louise reminds us that community pride is built one step, one gesture, one bag of trash at a time. She shows us that each of us can leave our corner of the world better than we found it.”
Monticello City thanked Louise for her example, her kindness, and her love for the community with a Citizen of the Year plaque and a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Louise would like to thank Monticello City and its citizens for the award.
Congratulations Louise! Thank you for making Monticello brighter every single day.
