Navajo coats project
Between Paul Summers of the Native American Initiative of Rotary Clubs of Utah and Janet Ross of the Rotary Club of Monticello a tremendously successful Navajo Coat project was completed this past month.
The Bountiful, Monticello, Orem, Richfield, and Tooele rotary clubs all donated warm winter coats or cash to buy the warm winter coats.
The coats were delivered by Janet Ross, Ricky Begaye, and Doug Allen to the chapter houses. Chapter leaders distributed them to those in need.
Given the size of the county it was no small effort to deliver coats to the chapter houses. The coats were sorted into groups of sizes to fit the needs of the individual chapters before delivering them to residents.
A total of 452 coats, hoodies, hats, and gloves were delivered to seven chapter houses including Halchita, Red Mesa, Aneth, Mexican Water, Gentle Ironhawk Shelter in Blanding, Oljato, and Navajo Mountain.
The Navajo Mountain Chapter said of the donation, “Thank you so very much to your organization. The parents of our toddlers and the community members were very ecstatic to receive the coats that were donated.
“They left with smiles on their faces knowing that they would be warm. Thank you to everyone who was involved, from packaging to the individuals that donated the coats, to bringing them out to our Chapter House.”
The Rotary Club of Monticello would like to thank all who helped and contributed coats, cash, and time.
