New faces, procedures

New faces, new procedures, new equipment, new changes; that’s what’s on the forefront for San Juan Health Services District.

Dr. Curtis Black, San Juan County native, joins the staff as the newest member of the Health District Team. Beginning July 30, 2007, Dr. Black joined the Blanding and San Juan Clinics as a family practice provider.

As part of his practice, Black will accept obstetric patients and will offer surgical procedures such as ear tubes, tonsillectomies, cesarean sections and appendectomies.

Dr. James D. Redd will now see patients one day a week in the San Juan Clinic, in addition to his Blanding practice, where he offers obstetrics and surgical procedures, including carpal tunnel release.

Obstetrical patients who are candidates for epidurals will now have this long awaited procedure available for pain control at the San Juan Hospital. The new CT scan machine, the best available to health care in southeastern Utah, will afford faster, more comfortable scans for patients.

University of Utah radiology interpretation of these scans offers quicker readings, especially in emergency situation.

The skilled nursing beds at San Juan Hospital offer a unique and long needed alternative for patient’s who no longer require hospitalization, but are not yet able to be at home or cared for at home by family members.

For those seeking an alternative to hospice or nursing home care, skilled care beds can offer that choice. Couple these new offerings with tele-stroke care and tele-burn care and San Juan Hospital is in its best position ever to provide up to date care for county residents.

Health care officials state that what’s not new for San Juan Health Services are dedicated providers, caring nursing staff and support employees who want all San Juan County residents to receive the best possible health care.
