New principals in three local schools have prior experience in the schools

The San Juan School District has made a number of changes in schools throughout the district, including the naming of three new principals. All three principals have had teaching or administrative experience in the schools they will oversee.
Brian Dixon is the new principal at Whitehorse High School. He is returning to the district after serving as principal at Kayenta Community School for the past three years.  Previously, he served as Assistant Principal at Whitehorse for four years and also has experience in various educational positions in Shiprock, Aneth, Red Mesa and Bloomfield. 
Dixon is currently working on a Doctoral Degree at New Mexico State University, where he obtained a masters degree in Educational Administration.  He lives in the Montezuma Creek area.
Dixon replaces John Fahey.
Spencer Singer is the new principal at Monument Valley High School 
Singer is returning to the district after a wide variety of educational experiences in other locations.  He started his teaching career as a teacher at Monument Valley High School and has also taught in Aneth, Las Vegas, Manti and in private and charter schools. 
He has had experience at the district administration level, serving as interim superintendent at Red Mesa School District during the 2011-12 school year. 
A graduate of San Juan High School, Singer is well acquainted with the area and is excited to be able to work with the Monument Valley community to enhance the education of the students there.  Singer replaces Sylvia McMillan.
Chas DeWitt is the new principal at Albert R. Lyman Middle School 
After two years working as the school district secondary school/CTE supervisor, DeWitt is moving back to the building-level administrative leadership role he held previously as Albert R. Lyman Middle School principal. 
Previously, DeWitt spent nine years at Albert R. Lyman Middle School, which achieved recognition as one of Utah’s most improved schools during his tenure. 
DeWitt said he is so anxious and excited to once again be in a leadership role that involves working directly with students and families, as well as the professional staff. 
DeWitt replaces Kim Bailey.
John Fahey is the new district director assisting in secondary programs, including Career and Technical Education, Distance Education, Concurrent Enrollment, and Technology.  John comes to the district office following eight years of service as principal at Whitehorse High School.
In addition to these administrative positions, there will be a host of new employees at schools throughout the district.
At the June 10 school board meeting, district officials stated they continue to recruit for a number of positions in the schools. In general, there appears to be a declining applicant pool for teaching positions.
