Monticello’s own Dennis Crane has defied the odds. Playing the Hideout Golf Club on September 8, Crane made a double-eagle (2) on the par 5, 13th hole.
Then, less than a week later on September 13, Crane shot a hole-in-one on the 7th hole, a 145-yard par 3. Crane hit a 7-iron.
The odds of making a hole-in-one, according to Golf Digest, is 12,500-1. The odds of making an albatross or double eagle is between one million to one or six million to 1.
There haven’t been a whole lot of double eagles in the history of golf. The odds of doing both within six days? Who knows, but the number has to be astronomical.
For Crane, the double eagle was his first. The hole-in-one is his third. He has previously made an ace on the 7th hole and the 11th hole at the Hideout.
The annual Hideout Fall Couples Classic attracted couples from Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona for some quality best-ball competition September 9.
The winners, and there was a tie, were Spencer and Lindsay Adams from West Jordan and Joe and Eve Ligon from Page, AZ. Each team shot even-par rounds of 72.
Winning the second flight with a round of 2-over-par 74 were Jesse and Janette Needles of Price. The net winners of the first flight were Chris and Marilee Eyre with a 7-under-par 65.
The winners of the second flight were Paul and Jacquelyn Southwick with a 60. Second place was Blanding’s Lehi Lacy and Monticello’s Kimm Lacy.
The Hideout 20th Anniversary Tournament will close out the 2022 season on October 1. It’s a 9 a.m. shotgun start, four-person scramble that costs $300 per team. Check HideoutGolf.com for full details.
