Car/truck crash leaves one seriously injured

One woman was seriously injured, and her unborn child killed, in a two-car crash at the intersection of Highway 191 and the Needles Overlook road at milepost 93 on March 21.
A 2013 Hundai Sonata driven by Lydia Compton, age 28 of Rockland Ranch, was hit by an oncoming FedEx truck when she pulled into traffic at the intersection.
Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) officials state that the truck was traveling at 55 miles per hour when it had a broadside collision on the driver’s side door of the Sonata.
Compton was extracted from the vehicle while emergency crews responded. A child in the vehicle was uninjured. The UHP states that the child was properly secured in safety restraints.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
UHP said a third vehicle was at the accident scene, a southbound commercial vehicle that was parked at the intersection and was partially obstructing the view. The driver of this vehicle left the scene and did not provide assistance at the crash scene.
UHP officials are seeking information on this vehicle, including any photos that may be available.
While weather conditions were not a factor in the crash, snow and low visibility was a factor in the rescue operation.
Compton was taken by ambulance to La Sal Junction, where she was transported by Life Flight Helicopter to a hospital in Farmington, NM. She is expected to recover.
Her unborn child did not survive the accident.
