Special Forces training center dedicated to memory of Aaron Butler

A massive new headquarters for Special Forces Operations at Camp Williams was dedicated on August 9 in the name of a local special forces soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

The SSG Aaron R. Butler Readiness Center is a 140,123 square foot facility that will house the 19th Special Forces Group.  The massive facility is nearly three football fields long and was built at a cost of nearly $39 million. It is easily visible from I-15 at Point of the Mountain.

Butler was killed in action on August 16, 2017.

A dedicatory plaque in front of the building states:

“Staff Sergeant Butler’s tenacity and dedication to duty was an example for all.  His distinction and accomplishments are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military and reflect great credit upon himself, the 19th Special Forces Group, the Utah Army National Guard, and the United States Army.”

A mural at the entrance to the building was painted by Arlo Johnson and features several images, including images of Butler.
