Monticello man killed on Peters Hill
A 22-year-old man from Monticello was killed on September 15 in a one-car crash on Highway 191, north of Monticello.
Julian Atencio was the sole occupant of a north-bound 2017 Ram pickup, which veered off the road approximately half-way down Peters Hill.
After traveling at a high rate of speed through a gravel parking lot on the west side of the highway, the vehicle catapulted into a ravine.
Atencio was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The vehicle landed on its roof after falling through boulders and cedar trees.
Law enforcement do not yet know when the accident occurred, as there were apparently no witnesses of the crash.
A passing semi-truck driver spotted the wreckage and reported the situation at around 9:45 a.m.
Law enforcement officials report that speed and alcohol may have been involved as contributing factors to the crash.
